The focus is on the presentation of a metadata schema with which the costs of scientific publishing can be comprehensively recorded, queried and exchanged in a structured form. This XML schema was developed by the project partners in a first stage and further developed with the involvement of the OA community in order to cover as many use cases as possible and at the same time to ensure practicality. The scheme is compatible with the reporting requirements of the DFG program \u201eOpen Access Publication Costs\u201c, but follows a more generic approach in order to be usable in an international context and beyond the program duration. The openCost team will present the first project results, which were developed in various events with the involvement of (inter)national expertise. For example, at the international workshop \u201eopenCost: the road to publication cost transparency\u201c. The results of this workshop were the starting point for the further development and fine-tuning of a draft for a metadata schema with which all publication costs of a scientific institution can be recorded, queried and mapped in a structured form.
